The purpose of the Azalea Avenue Study is to analyze potential pedestrian and bicycle accommodations along Azalea Avenue between Chamberlayne Avenue and Richmond Henrico Turnpike (1.5 miles)

Virtual Survey Results

A survey was conducted in January, 2025 for the Azalea Avenue Road Diet Study to explore enhancements for pedestrian and bicycle access along Azalea Avenue, between Chamberlayne Avenue and Richmond Henrico Turnpike. Residents were invited to provide input to help shape future improvements. The following data was compiled:

Topics of Concern

Participants were asked to share their level of concern regarding bicycle safety, pedestrian safety, speeding, traffic congestion and vehicle safety. The survey results show most participants are very concerned about pedestrian safety (98 responses), bicycle safety (87 responses), and speeding (74 responses) on Azalea Avenue.

Locations of Concern

Participants placed “pins” at locations of concern in the study area. Participants placed the most pins to denote locations of the following concerns: Excessive Traffic/Congestion (34 responses), Unsafe Vehicle Speeds (28 responses), Lack of Sidewalk (24 responses), Lack of a Safe Street Crossing (32 responses), Unsafe Intersection (27 responses) and Other (106 responses). The “Other” category includes limited visibility and difficulty navigating. The densest groupings of pins is in front of HHS and the VRCBVI. There also are dense groupings of pins on Azalea Avenue at Chamberlayne Avenue, Wilkinson Road, and Richmond-Henrico Turnpike. There were 253 total responses.

Upcoming Virtual Survey

An additional virtual survey is set to go live on July 24, 2026. Results will be made available once the survey is concluded.
