Dickens Road and Staples Mill Road Safety Improvements Study

The County of Henrico has analyzed the following accommodations:

• Review traffic data (volume, speeds, and  lane utilization) and crash data to identify potential safety improvements for the corridor of Dickens Road, from Broad Street to Staples Mill Road, and Staples Mill Road, from Dickens Road to Dumbarton Road.
• Identify potential measures to improve pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicle safety throughout the study area.
• Identify potential opportunities to improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity through proposed facilities identified in the County’s Draft Bicycle Plan.

·The study is complete and the full report is linked below. The preferred concepts include the following:

• Buffered bike lanes from W. Broad Street to Bethlehem Road
• Two-way protected bike lanes on the south side of Dickens Road from Bethlehem Road to Oconto Road.
• Off-street shared-use path from Oconto Road to Staples Mill Road.
• Off-street shared-use path on Staples Mill Road from Dickens Road to Dumbarton Road.
•  A single-lane roundabout on Dickens Road at Manor Drive.

The next steps are for the County to identify funding sources prior to advancing the design.
