Dan Schmitt first was elected to represent the Brookland Magisterial District in November 2018 and has been reelected twice. He served as Board chair in 2021 and is serving in the role again in 2025. He currently is serving his second full term as Brookland supervisor.

The founder and president of event-staffing company RMC Events, Mr. Schmitt serves on the boards of directors for Richmond Region Tourism, Sportable and the Greater Richmond Transit Company. He also has served a number of years on the board of directors for the Glen Allen Youth Athletic Association, including as president.

Mr. Schmitt earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Richmond.

Hanover County has joined Henrico and Chesterfield counties with a quadruple-AAA bond rating, expanding the region’s credentials for financial excellence.

Central Virginia now leads the way with three of only four county governments in the United States to achieve this exclusive designation.

“There’s 95 counties in the commonwealth of Virginia. There’s over 3,000 counties in this great nation. And to have three of the four reach this milestone right here - literally neighbors and partners - incredible,” Henrico Board of Supervisors Chair Dan Schmitt said at the Nov. 18 announcement in Hanover.

For years, Henrico and its neighboring counties held Triple-AAA status, earning AAA bond ratings for general-obligation bonds from S&P Global Ratings, Moody’s Investors Service and Fitch Ratings. Now, they're considered Quadruple-AAA as they've also earned top ratings from newcomer Kroll Bond Rating Agency.

As Hanover earned the top endorsement of a fourth main bond-rating agency, Chesterfield Supervisor LeQuan Hylton noted that “regional collaboration is our strength.” Hanover Board of Supervisors Chair Michael Herzberg praised the region's consistent leadership, strong financial planning, and “commitment to doing the right thing for the people who live here.”

Henrico County officials announced details of the proposed budget for fiscal year 2025-26, during a meeting at Fairfield Area Library. The budget would reduce the tax rates on real estate and personal property, delivering to residents and businesses the county’s most comprehensive, permanent tax relief in nearly 40 years.

In addition, the budget would continue to strengthen Henrico’s investments in education and public safety; advance capital projects, including those identified with the voter-approved 2022 bond referendum; and provide an initial allocation of $50 million to make the county’s utilities system stronger and more resilient.

Announcement of Henrico's proposed budget for FY25-26 - February 25, 2025

A pair of townhouse communities are expected to be the first residential developments to qualify for Henrico County’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund program. Twenty-five units in the Parkside Townes community and five in Discovery Ridge will soon be available to first-time homebuyers who meet household income and other program requirements.

On Oct. 29, officials with Henrico, the development companies and others announced the plans at Parkside Townes, a 123-unit townhouse community under construction by HHHunt on Whiteside Road in Sandston. Discovery Ridge is being built by Mungo Homes at Gayton Road and Lauderdale Drive in western Henrico.

The Board of Supervisors established the trust fund, effective July 1, with $60 million in previously unbudgeted revenues from data centers, one of Henrico’s fastest-growing industries. The nonprofit Partnership for Housing Affordability (PHA), which is administering the program, developed its criteria with Henrico’s Department of Community Revitalization and in September began accepting project applications. On Oct. 25, a review committee gave conditional approvals for Parkside Townes’ and Discovery Ridge’s inclusion in the program. Formal agreements are expected to follow.

Builders and developers must have at least five years of experience and must have developed, constructed and sold at least 30 homes. They also must be able to start construction within 12 months of applying and meet additional project deadlines. PHA expects to provide in November a portal to link prospective homebuyers with qualifying developers and builders.

Henrico announces 1st communities set for Affordable Housing Trust Fund program

At a Oct. 22 news conference, Henrico Fire Chief Jackson Baynard, Police Executive Chief Ken Burnett and Public Works Director Terrell Hughes discussed the county's ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian safety and emphasized the need for collective action to ensure safe travel for everyone. Also speaking at the event was Ashley Fisher, whose 15-year-old son, Nathaniel Clark, passed away after being struck by a vehicle on Staples Mill Road on Sept. 8.
