Nine Mile Rd Roadway Reconfiguration and Ped Safety

The County of Henrico will construct improvements that expand pedestrian access and connectivity while enhancing both pedestrian and vehicular infrastructure to increase safety and accessibility along Nine Mile Road between Newbridge Road and Lee Avenue.
The following improvements will be constructed, including:
- Pedestrian improvements including the installation of ADA-compliant curb ramps, pedestrian crosswalks and associated pavement markings, additional signing and improvements to the signal at the intersection of Nine Mile Road and Newbridge Road.
- New sections of sidewalk are being constructed along the north side of Nine Mile Road, between Newbridge Road and Lee Avenue. Along the south side of Nine Mile Road, minor improvements are being made to the existing sidewalk, adjacent to other project improvements.
- Upgraded GRTC bus stop facilities. The proposed improvements include dedicated concrete bus stop pads and shelters at GRTC stop numbers 1875 and 1914 based on ridership. The proposed improvements include dedicated concrete bus stop pads and benches at GRTC stop numbers 1858, 1869 and 1904.
- The project will implement additional stormwater management facilities in the form of new stormwater inlets, pipes and ditches. Portions of the existing stormwater infrastructure will be removed and replaced.
- The reconfiguration of the existing roadway is comprised of two specific improvements along the corridor:
- The project will convert the existing four-lane section into a three-lane section which includes a two-way left-turn-lane, one eastbound lane and one westbound lane between Forest Avenue and Lee Avenue.
- The project will include median refuge improvements near the Food Lion that will allow pedestrians to cross the street via a midblock crossing just west of Forest Avenue.
