Shady Grove Road and Old Nuckols Road Safety & Mobility Improvements

Due to resident concerns with speeding and safety within the project area, several improvements are being considered. A single lane roundabout has been constructed in the existing right-of-way at the intersection of Shady Grove Road and Old Nuckols Road.

The roundabout is part of a larger project to enhance safety, access, and connectivity in the area. Other improvements remain under design and include:

• Installing buffered bicycle lanes along Shady Grove Road from Nuckols Road to Old Nuckols Road and on Old Nuckols Road from Shady Grove Road to Leemore Drive. 
• Adding or improving pedestrian signals and crosswalks at signalized intersections. 
• Re-align Shady Grove Road from Old Nuckols Road to Prescott Place to straighten out “S” curve.

Estimated Schedule

• Construction on the roundabout at Shady Grove Road and Old Nuckols Road was completed in April 2025.
• Design for additional improvements is underway.
• Right of way acquisition for additional improvements is underway.
• Utility relocation for additional improvements is complete.
• Advertisement for additional improvements is anticipated for 3rd Quarter, 2026.
• Construction for additional improvements anticipated in 4th Quarter, 2026.

Progress to Date

A public information meeting was held on February 15, 2023, at the Short Pump Middle School and the public comment period closed on March 2, 2023.

The County has reviewed public feedback and revised the scope of the project to include improvements to Shady Grove Road south of Old Nuckols Road, specifically addressing the “S” curve to the north of Prescott Place.
