The County’s Finance Department is responsible for preparation of the County’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for each fiscal year ending June 30th. The issued reports for each year can be found in the Public Data section of the County’s website.
In accordance with State law, the Board of Supervisors contracts for an annual audit of the County. A request for proposals is processed which results in a contract awarded for multiple years to an independent accounting firm.
The external audit firm audits the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report with some assistance from Internal Audit to help control the cost of the work.
The County is required to undergo an annual single audit in conformity with the provisions of the Single Audit Act Amendments of 1996 and U.S. Office of Management and Budget’s Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (Uniform Guidance). Additionally, the County is required to undergo an audit of compliance with certain state requirements outlined in the Specifications for Audits of Counties, Cities, and Towns issued by the Auditor of Public Accounts of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Information related to the single audit and evaluation of state compliance, including any findings and recommendations, and auditors’ reports on the internal controls structure and compliance with laws and regulations, is contained in a report which is available from the Director of Finance.
