Henrico invites community to ‘Spread the Love’ by creating Valentine’s Day cards for older adults

Schools, faith-based organizations and other groups as well as individuals and families are encouraged to participate by creating cards that will be shared at local nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Cards will be collected through Friday, Feb. 6, and should be generic with an uplifting message in celebration of Valentine’s Day. As one of Henrico’s 130 centenarians, Frances Bailey sees a lot to look forward to every day 

Frances Bailey is the embodiment of active aging. At 102, she holds a prom queen title from her assisted living community, has an exercise routine named after her, wrote and self-published a memoir with her late husband and has been honored twice at Henrico’s Centenarian Celebration events. Shirley Morrow has relished the extra attention she's received since celebrating her 100th birthday in March.

“I’m in a big church [for] three services a day, and I’m like an icon at the church because there is no one else a hundred years old,” she said.

Henrico to offer resources for older residents at drive-through event Nov. 5

Henrico residents ages 60 and older can pick up free grab bags stocked with information from community organizations, personal protective equipment and giveaway items at a drive-through resource fair planned for 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center, 1440 N.
