The Roadway and Drainage Design group collaborates with several divisions within the County to develop plans and prepare construction documents for roadway and drainage projects, maintain Henrico’s roadway inventory, ensure public safety, and more.
Since public roadways in Henrico are managed either by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) or Henrico County, the Roadway and Drainage Design group works to ensure that capital projects such as sidewalk and drainage projects meet road standards and are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). It also is the Roadway and Drainage Design group’s responsibility to assist in the resolution of drainage issues in Henrico. This can include design solutions to address drainage issues involving multiple citizens, analyzing storm system capacity and functionality, reviewing utility plans to confirm there are no conflicts, and more. Finally, the group routinely prepares conceptual designs, cost estimates, and plan reviews.
