Backyard Composting
Backyard composting is a great way to prevent food waste while creating material that can be used to fertilize soil. Keep Henrico Beautiful and Virginia Cooperative Extension provide more information about how to compost in your backyard.
Drop-Off Composting
Henrico County has partnered with CVWMA and NOPE Composting Company to offer drop-off composting locations at the Springfield Road Public Use Area and the Charles City Road Public Use Area. CVWMA’s webpage provides more information about this program and about what items can and cannot be composted at these sites.
HEART’s webpage also provides more information about how many pounds of food scraps and organic material are diverted from landfills each month through the drop-off composting at the Public Use Areas. This year, 11,865 pounds of waste have been diverted from the landfill so far at the drop-off composting sites at the Public Use Areas.
