Never Too Safe on 2 Wheels

In May 2024, the Henrico County Police Division launched a new traffic safety campaign focused on motorcycle and bicycle safety.

The idea behind Never Too Safe on 2 Wheels is simple – you can never be too safe when traveling on a motorcycle or bicycle.

This campaign effort, which will run annually during the month of May, will focus on educating community members about motorcycle and bicycle safety.

Through April 30, 2025, Henrico County has had:
9 CRASHES involving MOTORCYCLES resulting in no FATALITIES,
2 CRASHES involving MOPEDS resulting in no FATALITIES, and
3 CRASHES involving BICYCLISTS resulting no FATALITIES.

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY:

  • Obey traffic lights, signs, speed limits and lane markings.
  • Wear a helmet and other protective gear.
  • Ride with the flow of traffic and leave plenty of room between your bike and other vehicles.
  • Always check behind you and signal before you change lanes.
  • Apply reflective materials to your motorcycle and/or helmet.

BICYCLE SAFETY:

  • Ride with the flow, in the same direction as traffic.
  • Obey street signs, signals and road markings, just like a car.
  • Wear a helmet and other protective gear.
  • Assume the other person doesn’t see you; look ahead for hazards.
  • Do not text, listen to music or use anything that distracts you by taking your eyes/ears off the road.
  • Wear bright clothing and/or reflective materials.

MOTORIST SAFETY AROUND CYCLISTS:

  • Be watchful of cyclists riding at lower speeds.
  • Avoid any distractions.
  • Obey traffic lights, signs, speed limits and lane markings.
  • When passing a bicyclist, ensure there is at least three feet of separation.

We all play a role in making sure each and every person traveling across Henrico County gets to where they’re going safely.

While Never Too Safe On 2 Wheels may be a special initiative during the month of May, Henrico Police also focuses on its collaborative year-round public-awareness campaign to promote safer streets for everyone via WOAH!
