Community Impact Grants

The HEART Community Impact Grants Program supports nonprofit community organizations advancing environmental sustainability in Henrico County. Organizations providing environmentally focused community service projects in Henrico County can apply for the HEART Community Impact Grant Program. 

The 2026 HEART Community Impact Grants have been awarded. The program’s budget and maximum grant amounts were increased to a total of $30,700 to support more projects and fund projects with greater impacts.


Spring 2026 Community Impact Grant Award recipients 

  • Beyond Boundaries, to support an Earth Day event at Osborne Park & Boat Landing 
  • Blue Sky Fund, for outdoor education at Title I elementary schools of Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS) 
  • Capital Region Land Conservancy, for restroom facilities at the Varina LandLab  
  • East Richmond Beekeepers Association, for a pollinator garden at Highland Springs High School that supports the installation of the school’s first beehive 
  • Good Neighbor Village, Inc., for planter beds and growing produce for residents 
  • Greater Richmond Fit4Kids, for a Learning Garden club at Ruby Carver Elementary School 
  • Local Ecotype Richmond Natives (LERN), to support a new nursery site with native plants available year round  
  • Richmond Community ToolBank, to support volunteers building furniture for outdoor classrooms at HCPS locations
  • Woodland Restoration Foundation, to promote outdoor access and restoration of the area around the Woodland Cemetery chapel 

To be eligible, organizations must:

  • Provide services to Henrico County residents related to environmental sustainability.
  • Demonstrate a clear connection between their work and HEART
  • Submit a complete application with all required documents.
  • Submit a scope of work, project budget and timeline.
  • Be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or a community group partnered with a 501(c)(3) nonprofit 

Applications eligible for grants include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Neighborhood and stream cleanup projects.
  • Green space and recreation equipment or improvements.
  • Support for youth programs and education.
  • Active transportation equipment and signage.
  • Support for community gardens, farms, and native planting.
  • Heat mitigation and resilience.
  • Invasive species removal or management projects.
  • Job and workforce training for environmental sustainability.

Grant applications for the 2027 cohort will be accepted beginning in the fall. Applications will be reviewed to determine applicants’ eligibility and awardees will be notified in the spring.
