Henrico County has the 3rd largest road network system in the Commonwealth. Our goal is to make traveling safe for you one road at a time!

One thing we take pride in is our road system, and we strive to keep our roads well maintained. Some of the maintenance we do on roads and around roads includes, Street Sweeping, Mowing, Road Patching, Road Restoration, Ditch Cleaning, etc. If you would like to learn more about our many different road maintenance tasks visit. henrico.gov/works/road-maintenance/other-road-maintenance-tasks/

Driver Safety Tips

  • Obey the speed limits, doing so will ensure everyone’s safety
  • Wear your seat belt
  • Adjust all mirrors for best visibility
  • Turn signals to notify other drivers of your intent
  • Maintain a safe following distance. At least a 3 second gap between you and the driver ahead, in bad weather double the amount of seconds
  • Be a cautious and defensive driver
  • If you don’t feel comfortable driving in inclement weather (Snow, Rain, etc.) it’s okay to wait it out
  • Make sure to maintain a 3-foot space when passing a bicycle

Motorcycles

In Henrico County we take motorcycle safety very seriously. That’s why we tell all drivers to be cautious and always be aware of your surroundings. Riding a motorcycle comes with many risks so please be careful and courteous of your fellow two wheeled riders! Below are some tips on how to safely ride your motorcycle:

  • Always wear a helmet
  • Always wear proper motorcycle gear (ex. gloves, jacket, jeans. etc)
  • Perform the proper safety checklist before riding

The Virginia Department of Transportation

(VDOT) maintains over 700 miles of interstates and major roadways in Henrico County. So In addition to Interstates 64, 95, and 295, VDOT maintains such roads as:

  • Airport Drive (Route 156)
  • Nine Mile Rd. (Route 33)
  • Patterson Ave. (Route 6)
  • Pemberton Road (Route 157)
  • Pouncey Tract Road (Route 271)
  • Staples Mill Rd. (Route 33)
  • Springfield Road (Route 157)
  • Broad Street (Route 250)
  • Williamsburg Rd. (Route 60)

Park and Rides

Park and Ride lots are available for use when commuting to work or school, or when sightseeing, shopping, running errands, etc.

Park and Ride lots allow commuters, particularly long-distance commuters, to park their vehicles or bikes at a convenient location and then finish their commute using alternative transportation modes – carpool, vanpool, bus, train, or bike.

There are three Park-N-Rides located in Henrico County:

Gaskins and Mayland Park-N-Ride

  • VDOT Owned

  • Commercial vehicle parking, trailer parking, and vehicular camping is prohibited.
  • Serviced by GRTC’s 29X Gaskins Express

Glenside Park-N-Ride

  • County Owned
  • Overnight parking at this lot requires permission from DPW. Please send your request to  [email protected]. In your email, please include your vehicle make, model, and color, license plate number, and date range for overnight parking.
  • If you come across problems with this lot, please reach out to the Transportation Development Division. For questions, feedback or comments, email [email protected] or call 804-501-4393.
  • Commercial vehicle parking, trailer parking, and vehicular camping is prohibited.
  • No current GRTC Express Service
  • Towing enforced by PEACO TOWING at this lot. Call (804)262-1001 for location and information concerning return of vehicle.

Parham and Fordson Park-N-Ride

  • VDOT Owned
