Description
In 1872 four men from the Seven Pines community purchased a tract of land south of Williamsburg Road just west of present-day Sandston “for the use and benefit of the colored members of the Baptist Church.” According to church tradition, the 36 members worshipped first in a brush arbor until a frame structure was built. Under the leadership of Rev. C.A. Cobb, a new, modern church was erected in 1926 and was described as “the most beautiful edifice in Henrico County.” After that church burned in 1937, the congregation moved to its present location. The current chapel was donated by the War Assets Administration after WWII and was reconstructed on this site in 1947 by church members.
