Conventional Septic systems located in a Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area are required to have their septic system pumped out by a licensed sewage handler at least once every five years. This is in accordance with Henrico County’s Chesapeake Bay Preservation Ordinance, Chapter 24-5803(H).
Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area Cross Section
Septic system owners may submit documentation of inspection by a certified operator or on-site soil evaluator within the last five years indicating the system is functioning properly and does not need to be pumped out, as an alternative to this pump-out requirement. A listing of certified operators and on-site soil evaluators can be found on the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation website.
